On Friday I launched my petition to allow local residents to note their objections to Sadiq Khan's proposal to extend the Ultra Low Emission Zone to cover our area.
Currently drivers of older cars are charged £12.50 a day - just to be able to use their own cars within the zone. That's £12.50 a day to go to work, to take the children to school, to go to a hospital appointment. Over the course of a year, it could cost you over £4,500 just to go about your day. More often that not, it will be those least well off being hit with the charge - I don't think that this is the right way to go about cleaning up our air.
It also opens up the possibility that the Mayor of London could soon just expand the ULEZ, but its scope, too - to cover more and more cars. In fact, I fear that it could eventually cover all vehicles in the London area.
These damaging plans should be scrapped, and I will do everything I can to ensure that happens as your Member of Parliament.
But to do that I need your help to make Sadiq Khan and the Sutton Lib Dems realise how damaging the expansion of ULEZ will be for our area. That's why it's so important you make your views known in my petition to the Mayor, which you can find here, and as part of TfL's consultation.
Please do take the time to fill out the petition, as I will be passing on every entry when I write to Sadiq Khan to outline my own objections to his plans, as well as the breadth of local dissatisfaction and opposition of local residents.
Together we can stop the ULEZ money grab by the Mayor of London and local Lib Dems.
