Sadiq Khan is planning to expand the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) to include Carshalton and Wallington, and the Lib Dems back the damaging policy.
Currently drivers of older cars are charged £12.50 a day - just to be able to use their own cars within the zone. That's £12.50 a day to go to work, to take the children to school, to go to a hospital appointment. Over the course of a year, it could cost you over £4,500 just to go about your day.
If that wasn't damaging enough at a time when we're facing rises in fuel costs due to Putin's war in Ukraine, failure to pay results in a fine of £160. That's £160 straight out of drivers' pockets and into the Mayor of London's coffers.
At the moment the ULEZ charge is enforced within the Congestion Charge Area and up to the North and South Circular Roads. However, these plans would bring Khan's charges and fines right into our communities across Carshalton and Wallington. And what's more the Liberal Democrats on Sutton Council support it.
It's clear to me that the charge would impact those most vulnerable and hardworking in our communities.
These damaging plans should be scrapped, and I will do everything I can to ensure that happens as your Member of Parliament.
But to do that I need your help to make Sadiq Khan and the Sutton Lib Dems realise how damaging the expansion of ULEZ will be for our area. That's why it's so important you make your views known as part of TfL's consultation, and sign my petition below.
Please do take the time to fill it out, as I will be passing on every one of them when I write to Sadiq Khan to outline my own objections to his plans, as well as the breadth of local dissatisfaction and opposition of local residents.
Together we can stop the ULEZ money grab by the Mayor of London and local Lib Dems.
