I'm thrilled about the announcement today that Harris Junior Academy in Carshalton is one of the latest 239 schools across England to benefit from the Government’s 10-year School Rebuilding Programme, which has already invested over £13 billion in maintaining and improving schools since 2015.
This funding will help to further ensure that every local child has a good school place - something I campaigned before my election as your local Member of Parliament and which I continue to work towards, across our area and in Parliament.
Through their inclusion in the list, and with the investment, the schools will be rebuilt or substantially refurbished.
Today's announcement now brings the number of schools chosen for the investment programme up to 400. What's more, a further 100 expected to be confirmed in future years, delivering on the Conservatives' manifesto commitment to give every child access to a great school and a world-class education.
However, it won't just be our pupils benefitting from the improvements, but the wider local community, too. With work to rebuild the schools announced today starting immediately. This will help to create jobs, apprenticeships, and training opportunities around the country, backed by £1.8 billion in funding this financial year.
