I welcome the landmark announcement in the recent Budget that a lower rate of duty will be introduced on draught beer.
However, the new lower rate will only apply to beer placed in containers of at least 40 litres in size.
I understand that many breweries, including Anspach and Hobday locally, often use smaller casks for craft beer, so I have written to the Chancellor to ask him to consider extending the rate reduction scheme to include beer produced by small brewers in 20 or 30 litre kegs and casks.
