This afternoon I had the opportunity to lead a Westminster Hall debate on Plastic Waste.
Reducing plastic waste is something which is often raised with me by Carshalton and Wallington residents. Indeed, I recently had the pleasure of visiting Culvers House Primary School in Hackbridge after pupils wrote to me about why they felt this was so important. As well as this, the Chamber Engagement Team conducted a public survey on what people felt was a priority; with over 500 people taking part.
This topic is a particular passion of mine, given the Beddington incinerator in my constituency, and I have previously called for measures to remove as much recyclable material from incineration, especially plastics, as possible.
Reducing plastic waste is a mammoth topic, however I was pleased to have the opportunity to lead today's Westminster Hall debate to explore the steps that need to be taken, and are already being taken, to reduce plastic waste in our environment.
