Just before Christmas, I had the opportunity to speak in a Westminster Hall Debate on the Mayor of London's outrageous and non-sensical plans to expand the Ultra Low Emissions Zone.
I've been vocal in my opposition to these plans since even before the consultation was opened, and I'm glad to have been joined by thousands of residents in opposing ULEZ expansion through my petition.
So, I appreciated the opportunity to speak out against what is nothing more than a cynical ploy from the Mayor to hit the least well off the hardest and to open the door to a London-wide road usage tax. TfL's own figures show that 30% of all vehicles in our borough would be non-compliant; that's roughly 30,000 vehicles.
How many small businesses, charities, OAPs, families, and everyone else already struggling will that affect?!
Be in no doubt that this will just be the start.
I'm glad to be working with Conservative colleagues in Parliament, in the GLA, and in local government to do all we can to put a stop to it.
We should be encouraging people to live greener lifestyles, not punishing them because they can't afford it.

PS - Try and spot any Lib Dem MPs in the debate to defend it. (It might be tricky - none did. Zero. That's despite their widespread public support for it both in Carshalton and Wallington and across London.)
