Last week, I had the opportunity to speak in the Chamber in the support of the Chancellor's Budget.
It was clear from the various policy announcements that came out of it, that the Government has been listening to the calls from MPs like myself for continued support for those across our communities, including individuals and small to medium businesses - the backbone of our area.
Whether it's through my Cost of Living Guide delivered to homes, detailing the support available and how to access it, or my supporting of our local pubs and businesses through their respective awards, I've been vocal in the need to ensure that the support is effective and meaningful.
As such, in my speech I was able to touch one a number of announcements that will benefit Carshalton and Wallington, but especially that relating to childcare. The Chancellor's announcement of an increase in free childcare for working parents of children aged from 9 months to 5 years is to be welcomed - indeed I've been lobbying for more to be done in this field.
The increase in the free provision of childcare will give parents the opportunity - and choice - to go into employment, or increase the work they're able to do. What's more, it'll give parents, especially mums, more independence, too, through those jobs they can now take.
It was also great to mention the fact that it was greatly appreciated that we were able to welcome both the Employment and Opportunities Minister and Chairman of the Conservative Party to Carshalton and Wallington hear about how some of the announcements will affect those in our area.
There is, as always, more to do, and I will continue to listen to residents, act where I can, and lobby colleagues in Government on those other issues.
