I know how important communal worship is to so many of my constituents.
Several hundred constituents, including many faith leaders as well as the Bishop of Southwark, have written to me in recent weeks to express their dismay at the closure of church services. Lots of those who wrote to me have outlined the COVID-secure measures that their churches and other places of worship have put in place, and highlighted the lack of evidence of any significant contribution to community transmission through churches.
Accordingly, I have written to the Prime Minister to make these views clear - you can read a copy of my letter below.
I have asked him to ensure, as we come out of national lockdown measures, that people across the country can attend services as we enter the Christmas period.
