I had such a wonderful time at Praise in the Park in Beddington Park today to remember those lost too soon through Coronavirus.
Praise in the Park brings together worshippers from across the area, headed by St Patrick's, Holy Trinity and Springfield Churches. The event is the first of its kind and has been a chance to remember those lost throughout the pandemic and thank those who helped on the frontline, as well as helped in our communities, to bring us through to the other side of the pandemic.
Since starting my Unsung Heroes Award last year, I have been blown away by the incredible stories of individuals and organisations who stepped up to help their communities in a variety of ways. These included delivering PPE to the frontlines, donating food and drink to those shielding, organising Zoom events to combat loneliness, fostering children and much more.
Church community groups were especially involved in these efforts and I have heard countless stories of families going out of their way to support those living alone or those who lost their job or loved ones through Coronavirus.
I was honoured to be asked to address those attending Praise in the Park and speak to a number of stall holders, including the Chris Donovan Trust, Sutton Healthwatch and the Street Pastor team. The event also included a picnic for the whole family and a local music festival.
Thank you again to the churches involved with this fantastic event.
