A new cycle lane on Foresters Drive is due to be installed as part of a series of new road plans from the Council.
The Government has given Councils funds in order to improve walking and cycling facilities across the country, both to increase the uptake to promote healthier lifestyles, but also to further enable social distancing in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic.
The Council has produced a number of schemes, which you can view here.
These include plans for a new cycle lane along Foresters Drive.
The cycle lane will be on the eastern side of the road (the side of the road bordering Roundshaw Downs), segregated from the main road by a solid white line, meaning motorists cannot enter it. This will run the full length of Foresters Drive from Mollison Drive to Plough Lane, except at the junctions with other roads, where the restriction will be reduced to an advisory cycle lane to allow motorists to cross the path and into these roads.
I am disappointed that residents did not have the opportunity to have their say before a decision was made. Nevertheless, my understanding is that this will be put in place from September on a trial basis. An assessment will be made on whether it has been effective, and I hope that residents will also be given the chance to give to have their say on whether they believe the scheme has been beneficial or not.
If you have any concerns or views about this plan or any other issue, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me.
