I was very pleased to be able to meet (virtually) with TellMAMA today - a national project which records and measures anti-Muslim incidents in the United Kingdom.
I am proud to represent a constituency as diverse as Carshalton and Wallington, but sadly there are occasions when discrimination rears its head. We are home to people of all faiths and none, and I want to ensure that we remain an accepting and welcome place to live, work and raise a family.
We spoke about the issues facing communities today and ways we can work towards stamping out Islamophobia. We also make a commitment to work together on projects going forward, including joint visits to places of worship.
I also raised the point that Carshalton and Wallington is home to many Ahmadiyya Muslims, who suffer much persecution around the world for their beliefs. As a member of the All Party Parliamentary Group for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, I will continue to fight for their protections.
