The bridge at Kings Lane is due to be closed as part of a series of new road plans from the Council.
The Government has given Councils funds in order to improve walking and cycling facilities across the country, both to increase the uptake to promote healthier lifestyles, but also to further enable social distancing in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic.
The Council has produced a number of schemes, which you can view here.
These include plans to close the railway bridge on Kings Lane.
This will prevent motorists being able to use the bridge to cross between Kings Lane and the surrounding roads and the Hillcroome Road/Upland Road/Downside Road area, which is often used as a cut through.
I am disappointed that residents did not have the opportunity to have their say before a decision was made. Nevertheless, my understanding is that this will be put in place from September on a trial basis. An assessment will be made on whether it has been effective, and I hope that residents will also be given the chance to give to have their say on whether they believe the scheme has been beneficial or not.
