From the start, I knew many Londoners agreed with me that punitively punishing the least well-off through expanding ULEZ to Carshalton and Wallington was not the proper way to go about cleaning our air. It would seem the Mayor of London knew that, too.
Over 200 documents and emails have been released today, suggesting that Sadiq Khan made false and dishonest statements to the London Assembly, as well as manipulating the ULEZ consultation results by improperly excluding thousands of responses.
They outline how over 5,000 responses were improperly excluded from the final count. This included *90%* of which opposed his expansion plans, after interventions from the Mayor's senior staff; reducing opposition from 62% to 59% in the final count.
What's more, the Mayor repeatedly denied seeing the ULEZ consultation results in advance when Peter Fortune AM questioned him at the London Assembly. However, we know this to simply be untrue. In fact, he was told at a secret briefing on 29 September with his senior staff receiving weekly updates.
Sadiq Khan's actions amount to serious misconduct, and undermined the integrity of the ULEZ consultation.
I welcome the news that Nick Rogers AM has made a formal complaint to the GLA Monitoring Officer, who is expected to investigate the Mayor for multiple code of conduct breaches.
