Like many local residents, I was shocked and concerned to hear about last week's discovery of an unexploded World War 2 ordinance in Bandon Hill Cemetery last week. Fortunately, the find was swiftly and safely dealt with and removed by the emergency services - and I'd like to thank them for all their work in making the site safe.
However, and justifiably, a number of constituents have been in touch regarding the potential of any damage to loved ones' memorials and remains from the discovery of the bomb and its subsequent removal. To follow-up on this, I paid a visit to the cemetery and spoke with some of the grounds team who maintain the site. They assured me that there was no damage made to any memorials, remains or fabric of the cemetery.
I hope this news will allay any concerns, but if anyone remains worried regarding a loved one's remains, please do get in touch with Idverde UK who manage and maintain the cemetery's grounds.
