This afternoon, as a member of the Petitions Committee, I had the opportunity to question the Schools Minister around how we can ensure a diverse curriculum is taught in our schools.
As the Chair made clear at the start, the Petitions Committee has received a huge number of individual petitions and signatures to those petitions, and evidently there is a lot of interest in this issue.
I asked the Minister what steps the Government is taking to ensure both a diversity within teaching staff, particularly history teachers where there are issues around BAME students taking the subject forward at GCSE and beyond, and also what the Government is doing to ensure that the curriculum represents the full range of British history and cultural backgrounds.
