I am delighted to hear that, as part of the Government's Plan for Jobs, over 85,000 apprentices have been hired with 75% being under 25 years old.
This is fantastic news for our young people after a difficult 18 months of job uncertainty caused by the Coronavirus pandemic. I am particularly proud that one of these 85,000 apprentices includes my fantastic apprentice, Joel! Joel joined my team in June from Carshalton Boys Sports College having just finished his A-Levels. A life-long Hackbridge lad, Joel is with my team for the next year and will learn a variety of skills including speech writing, preparing briefs, researching policy and diary management.
On his time so far with #TeamColburn, Joel commented:
Thank you to Elliot and his team for welcoming me and giving me this amazing opportunity to get an insight in the day to day workings of an MPs office. I have really enjoyed my time so far meeting and helping members of the local community. I really look forward to working in Parliament now restrictions have been relaxed and to see first-hand how a parliamentary team works in Westminster. I also look forward to meeting new people and learning many more valuable skills which I will take forward with me in my future career.
If you are a local student and are interested in completing work experience in my office please email me at elliot.colburn.mp@parliament.uk. If you are interested in becoming my next apprentice, please keep an eye out on my social media for when applications open next year.
