As he plans to extend the Ultra Low Emission Zone to Carshalton and Wallington, backed by Sutton’s Lib Dems, the Mayor of London repeatedly tells us that residents can escape the daily £12.50 charge by relying on public transport.
And yet, right now, the largest rail strikes in a generation are causing chaos for families and workers across our area.
With the very same public transport system that the Mayor of London uses as a solution to beat his own ULEZ money grab grinding to a halt, people are left scratching their heads in frustration and anger.
But this doesn’t have to be the case.
Sadiq Khan’s ULEZ expansion isn’t a foregone conclusion. Even if it is supported by the Sutton Lib Dems.
If enough people throughout Carshalton and Wallington sign my petition, like many have, we can send a message to the Mayor and Sutton Lib Dems. That we don’t agree that penalising the least well off in our area is the best way to clean our area. That it leaves open the possibility for even more vehicles to be deemed non-ULEZ compliant in the future. That it just doesn’t make sense.
We’ve had nearly 1,500 people sign the petition so far since I launched it. That’s already a sizeable message to send Sadiq Khan.
But think about the message we’d be sending and its impact if everyone who’s signed the petition forwarded it to just two people. That could be a family member, a friend, a work colleague, or someone on the school run.
That would be almost 5,000 people telling the Mayor to stop his plans to expand ULEZ to Carshalton and Wallington.
So, please think about getting someone you know to sign it. They can add their name here: https://www.elliotcolburn.co.uk/stop-ulez.
Together we can stop the ULEZ money grab.
