It was a pleasure to visit the Royal Marsden in Sutton yesterday.
The Royal Marsden is one of the finest cancer hospitals in the world, providing innovative and world class treatments and research, making it a leader globally in the fight against cancer - we are lucky to have it on our doorstep!
I met with their Chief Executive, Dame Cally Palmer, to hear about their experiences during lockdown, but also take a tour of the children and teenage wards.
The level of investment into the ward has been astonishing, not just in terms of treatment, but also the spaces created where children and young people can play and relax away from having to think about their treatment, and where their families can also get some rest.
That is why I am supporting the 'It Must Be Marsden' campaign, to ensure that the services remain at the Royal Marsden in Sutton for the future.
We also spoke about exciting £500 million investment into Epsom and St Helier Hospitals, as a new A&E hospital will be built next to the Marsden to serve the local area, and they are incredibly pleased to have this news as the two hospitals can provide greater support each other.
