The effect on the arts is something many Carshalton and Wallington residents have contacted me about, so it was a pleasure to visit Cryer Arts today to hear how they have been coping in the lockdown.
It was really useful to hear first hand about the difficulties that local artists have been facing, and the support needed to see them through this pandemic.
I have also received a lot of correspondence from Carshalton and Wallington residents who work in the Arts or support the Arts and want to see them get the help they need.
I'll be feeding back these concerns to the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).
UPDATE: Government announces £1.57 billion package for the Arts
On Sunday 5th July, the Government announced a £1.57 billion package for the Arts, which I warmly welcome. I hope that Cryer Arts are able to access this support and goes some way to helping them through the pandemic.
