This morning I met virtually with Katie from Sutton Schools Sport Partnership (SSSP) to hear more about the incredible work they do to support physical activity and healthy living across Carshalton and Wallington.
Sutton Schools Sport Partnership was formed to increase the capacity of the School Games Organiser and to enhance support for schools to deliver high quality Physical Education (PE). Over the past 7 years, SSSP have worked closely with teachers and pupils in over 28 local primary schools and secondary schools to deliver bespoke PE packages, including additional Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes in mental health and Lego-based therapy.
As qualified teachers, the team at SSSP are keen to support other teachers in encouraging children to partake in physical activities both during and outside of school. This supports the Conservative manifesto, in which I was proud to stand on in 2019, to do more to help schools make good use of their sports facilities and encourage physical literacy and competitive sport.
I am a huge supporter of promoting positive health and mental wellbeing in young people and children and have met recently with several organisations who are committed to promoting this across our communities. This will be especially important as we come out of current lockdown restrictions for children who have been unable to access regular physical activities.
Katie and her team have a number of exciting ideas for our area that they want to deliver, and I have committed to working with them to help bring these forward.
