I know a number of Carshalton and Wallington residents are rightly concerned about the impact Coronavirus could have on our Arts industry.
Locally we are lucky to have the amazing team at Cryer Arts who rescued the Charles Cryer theatre from closure, and ensured we still have a great local theatre in our Borough. I was so pleased to attend the re-opening and also to raise this in Parliament earlier this year. I also know Carshalton Artists Open Studios (CAOS) have been amazing in putting on some really great online events during lockdown!
Whether it be theatres, musicians, artists or one of the many roles that keep our arts industries thriving, many residents have been in touch wanting to ensure that Coronavirus does not mean the arts may suffer as a result.
I've been in touch with the team at Cryer Arts to ask for a conversation about their experience of Coronavirus and the impact it's had for them, and I'm looking forward to meeting with them tomorrow. I'll be feeding back their thoughts along with those of the residents who've been in touch, with the team at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) to see what we can do for them.
