Today I met the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) to discuss my concerns about proposals for a school at Sheen Way field.
I have been working cross-party with the Independent Councillors for Beddington North to oppose the Council's support for a school at Sheen Way.
Whilst I strongly support the need for Carew Academy to have a new, purpose built facility for their pupils, I do not think shoe-horning them into a small site at Sheen Way, whilst also removing the only bit of green space these residents have, is good for any body.
We spoke about the concerns I had for the site, and I was especially worried to hear that if it was to go ahead, the likelihood of mitigating the damage by having access from Purley Way is now looking almost impossible.
At the moment, we are awaiting a date for this to be seen by the Council's Planning Committee.
My hope is that the Committee rejects these plans, and that the Council and ESFA reconsider appropriate sites in the Borough to move this new school too.
