Today I visited the Royal Marsden Hospital to hear about the plans for build a new facility, which will provide world class care for cancer patients.
The Royal Marsden have submitted a planning application to the London Borough of Sutton for a new building, the Oak Cancer Centre (OCC).
The new building is being designed to encourage collaboration between researchers, who are currently spread out around the hospital, to speed up the translation of their world-leading research into treatments that can improve and save people’s lives.
The Royal Marsden said: "Our core patient areas need updating if we are going to be able to offer the best treatment and care for our patients in the future, and we need a new Rapid Diagnostic Centre to help us increase the number of cancer patients we diagnose at an early stage, when treatment is more likely to be successful."
This is all part of the Royal Marsden's plans to update their building infrastructure to allow for the most modern care for cancer patients possible.
I was pleased to hear about the exciting plans for the new centre, and I look forward to seeing them develop.
