I'm pleased we're not going back into another full national lockdown at the moment, especially as Carshalton and Wallington residents have sacrificed so much to keep infection rates down in the Borough - and firstly I want to reiterate my thanks to all neighbours and local residents for their incredible efforts.
As ever, I'm here to help and answer questions if there is anything you need at all - my details are below. These are incredibly tough times, but we will get through it.
The announcement today includes:
- 10pm curfew for pubs, bars and restaurants from Thursday,
- Table service only in hospitality venues,
- Work from home if you can,
- Customers must wear face coverings in taxis, as well as staff in retail,
- Staff and customers in indoor hospitality must now wear face coverings,
- From Monday, only 15 people can attend a wedding service and reception - 30 people can still attend a funeral,
- A maximum of six people can take part in indoor team sports,
- Large sports events and conferences will not take place from 1 October, as previously planned,
- Fines will be increased and expanded to encourage compliance,
- Those who have been shielding do not need to do so except in local lockdown areas.
The measures will be kept under review as more data comes in, and I hope that Parliament will continue to have a role in scrutinising these measures that are having such a profound impact on people's physical and mental health, their businesses and every aspect of their lives.
I know people have questions about sector specific support and clarification on some parts of the rules, which I am taking up with Ministers immediately.
If anyone has any further questions, please do email me at elliot.colburn.mp@parliament.uk or call my office on 020 7219 5862 and I will happily help.
