This afternoon, as a member of the Women and Equalities Committee, I had the opportunity to discuss the take-up of COVID-19 vaccines in BAME communities and with women.
We heard from a range of experts, and I asked about the importance of not just translating public health messages into different languages, but also translating the content appropriately for each community. Whilst written content is important, we've found that infographics in different languages can have a key role to play, particularly for people for whom visual learning is important, and where there are nuances and differences of dialect within languages.
We also discussed the important role that faith leaders have in encouraging vaccine uptakes, and discussed examples that can be learnt from and applied across the country, looking at who the community listens to, and how places of worship and in those in positions of authority and trust can counter misinformation.
